The "Carini" approached the 20-minute mark, giving light designer Chris Kuroda ample time to show off his massive rig, complete with moving trusses assembled in new shapes and patterns. Huge cheers greeted the "Carini" opener. This twenty-minute behemoth injected fire into the audiences floating waves, keeping dancers on their toes and adventurers fueled up with soul and power to rock on through the wild ride. Mathews then joined Phish on a cover of Daniel Lanois The Maker, which was last performed on Oct. 15, 1994, nearly 1,000 shows ago. Check out videos, the setlist, and photos from the show by David Andrako below.

By the time Page sang "Strange Design" all four members of the band had taken a turn singing lead. Phish returned to the stage with special guest Dave Matthews, who had played his event at the Moon Palace with Tim Reynolds, which featured a guest performance by Anastasio just days before. riviera setlist Photo by Rene Hunter// via Phish from the Road Twitter. Making an immediate nod to their beautiful surroundings and the events reptile mascot, the bearded band opened the night with The Lizards, marking the first time the song has served as an opener since 1990. Keeping the beach party tunes rolling, the band dealt out a strong rendition of A Song I Heard The Ocean Sing to close the rare four-song set, now clearly settled into the comfy environs for a weekend of music and revelry. With plenty more segue steam behind them, Trey, Mike, Fish, and Page gracefully moved into a funky Also Sprach Zarathustra, known to the layman as 2001. To close the show, Phish and Matthews delivered what fans were hoping for a Tweezer Reprise finale. The fun continues tonight, Saturday, February 26th, with another fiesta on the beach. Anastasio and keyboardist Page McConnell took turns leading a "Carini" jam that was filled with impressive interplay between the pair while the rhythm section of drummer Jon Fishman and bassist Mike Gordon anchored the improv with a steady beat. Carini, much like DWD, has truly become one of the most reliable tools in the bands belt over the years. Enc. Phish: Riviera Maya continues tonight with a start time of 7:30 p.m. EST. The night began with a blast off into Say It To Me S.A.N.T.O.S. as Trey Anastasiotook the spotlight for some crashing waves of guitar solos and Page McConnell showed dazzling support, his fingers surfing the keys. [1] Phish debut; incomplete. Typically, a monster of a jam like this would be a shoo-in for jam of the show, but Phish was far from finished exploring after this fantastic, open-ended DWD. phish No Comments comments associated with this post, Billy Strings Performs Debut Set at Lollapalooza in Chicago, Listen Now: Eric Clapton Releases New Single and Official Music Video for Pompous Fool, Lureto Release New LP A Peak From The Crows Nest, Ahead of Second Ever SUSTO Es Muerto ft. They then played The Moma Dance and jammed into Frank Zappas Peaches en Regalia for the first time since the second night of their New York Bakers Dozen run on July 22, 2017. After downshifting for this beautiful ballad, Phish set the gear shift to high for one last sprint through Run Like An Antelope to close out another exciting night of Phish: Riviera Maya. Phish ushered in fans with a single set, rich with bust-outs, a debut and their first sit-in featuring Dave Matthews since 1995. Copyright 2022 L4LM | Website by Computer Courage. Mike Gordons subtle yet pulsing bass tones helped give life and color to the tune, infusing it with a groove as strong as ever. Next, the band sent fans splashing in the sea with Freeone of many songs they played last night that perfectly alluded to the shorefront vibesand Jon Fishman, clad in a pink and blue muumuu, stole the show for the percussion-driven Back on the Train. A blazing "Possum" followed along with an extended "The Moma Dance" featuring "Bug" teases before Phish took it down a notch with the contemplative "Leaves" and introspective "Strange Design." Trey made some location edits in the lyrics, singing Dancin on my sand and Dancin on the beach to give the extended set opener some tropical flavor. The run continues through Saturday (4/23), and Phish will be back in the NYC-area when their spring/summer tour hits Jones Beach on July 26 & 27 and Atlantic City Beach on August 5, 6 & 7. Well see you back here tomorrow for a rundown of the Saturday night festivities.

Phish and Matthews came out the gates with their debut performance of So Damn Lucky off of Matthews 2003 debut album Some Devil. The four-piece moved from an evil soundscape to a blissful jam space in a minor-to-major key modulation that has been a trademark of the band's jamming and was repeated a number of times on Wednesday night. Phish were supposed to do another of their Madison Square Garden New Year's runs until Omicron got in the way, so they rescheduled their four-night run at the venue for the spring, and it began last night, on 4/20. The encore closer featured Matthews on acoustic guitar and howling vocals and went on for over 20 minutes. Here's an excerpt of Scott Bernstein's review for JamBase: The energy in the room reached a fevered pitch as the clock struck 8 p.m. and the band was about to take the stage. Upon returning for the encore Trey took a moment to thank the resort staff before continuing the location-appropriate song selections with a flowing Wading In The Velvet Sea.

The Kasvot Vxt staple quickly lunged ahead into one of the nights big highlights, the Phish debut of The Rolling Stones (I Cant Get No) Satisfaction. Next came Tube, during which Anastasio once again teased Tweezer, which led into Sigma Oasis. The quartet ended their welcome set again with a nod to their surroundings by playing Sand.. Phish wasted little time breaking through the song's typical structure for the first Type II excursion of the run. The unfinished Down with Disease included alternative beach and sand themed lyrics. Phish then covered Son Seals Funky Bitch which led to an extended jam of Tweezer > Piper > Soul Planet. The music didnt stop as they moved seamlessly from Soul Planet into Meat, which saw teases of Tweezer and Deep Purples Smoke on the Water. They continued to roll out sound as Meat morphed into their recently debuted Sci-Fi Soldier single, The Howling, which was followed by Shade. Phish gave fans a bit of time to reflect and cool down as they played another track from Anastasios Lonely Trip, Evolve, which marked the third time theyve ever played it together live.

The commencement set marked the fifth time Phish have welcomed fans to the Riviera Maya and served as their first live performance with an audience since their Halloween 2021 shows in Las Vegas. While Phish only performed the first verse and chorus of the song, the Stones interlude was nonetheless a welcome surprise. Next, the band moved into I Never Needed You Like This Before from Trey Anastasios 2020 LP Lonely Trip. Listen to a full, soundboard audio recording of the performance via LivePhish here. Its always a pleasant surprise to hear Mike Gordon burst into the playful, a capella vocal intro of Halleys Comet, and this Comet jam traveled through more than 14 minutes of improvisation before landing briefly back in a reprise of Say It To Me S.A.N.T.O.S.. The crowd responded to every turn made within "Carini" and was attentive throughout the evening for the most part.
