They took them up the gondola, did nature hike, and learned about the plants & flowers. 
There are enough places that are open in August to make it worthwhile to stay at the mountain base. I can't wait til it opens for the season!!!

The most magically happy hour returns at the top of the Steamboat ski area. Possibly my most favorite ski resort! Entertainment provided by Jeremiah Poiko. Although Steamboat needs to reel in their prices a bit for families if they wish to stay one of our favorite destinations, for now we love our 2ce annual visits. $15 includes gondola ride and $5 off food or drink of your choice. Gondola boarding begins at 5:00pm and ends at 7:45pm. So much to do: fish, bike, or ride to the top for brunch or dinner. The snow really is special, it just sparkles. Steambaot Springs is an easy destination for us as there are many direct flights from Houston to Hayden.
In Steamboat Springs it is on Saturday, July 30, 2022. We had a blast this summer hiking, tubing along the yampa river & my young daughter had a blast for a day in the kids camp! After 10 years of skiing- first time to see it without snow! Lot's of terrain for those of different skill levels.
